Manually Remove/Uninstall Silverlight

Problem:

When you try to uninstall Silverlight via Add/Remove Program you were prompted by one of this error(S):

No valid sequence could be found for the set of patches

or

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.”

Solution:

1. Close all open Internet Explorer.
2. Delete the following registry entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> Installer -> Products -> D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100
3. Install the latest version of Silverlight.

No need to restart the machine.

    Solved!!

While trying to install Silverlight 5, i got the error message ¨silverlight.msi the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable¨ and the procedure is stopped. Uninstalling the previous version of Silverlight in the Control Panel-Software-Delete resulted in the same error message. Changing the wrong default path manually to the existing silverlight.msi did not work. Ccleaner registry cleaner, IObit Uninstaller, Revo Uninstaller did not work.

Delete the following registry entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> Installer -> Products -> D7314F9862C648A4DB8BE2A5B47BE100 as described above solved the problem in a minute !!! and Silverlight 5 could be installed without a problem any more.

    Thanks!!

Yes, it worked. I successfully loaded Silverlight 4.

I was getting the “Network Resource is not Available” previously and was unable to delete Silverlight 2.

An hour on the phone with Microsoft yielded nothing.

I deleted that one registry entry and my problem was solved.

    Thanks!!!!

Ran into an issue fixing a laptop where Windows Update was throwing a 670 error when trying to install an update for Silverlight. (Silverlight has not been able to be updated since it was first installed many many months ago.) Read a few articles that led me to manually uninstall which gave me the “No valid sequence” error. More research took me in circles and nothing worked. When I landed here, I did exactly as instructed (with the addition of taking a backup of the registry key first just in case things went south). Just like that, the laptop is much happier.

    Thanks so much,
    Animal

I’m with Jess- this worked in an instant when Netflix could help and I couldn’t even reach the right tech at Microsoft.

It worked!! I wish there was a way to recommend this answer to Microsoft or Silverlight or something. I’ve been searching for hours and this solved the problem in two seconds!!1

I have a brand new HP laptop (2 days ago) with Windows 7 Home Premium and have been installing about 1/2 Gb of Windows updates so far (usual PITA). Got stuck on updating Silverlight and it would not update or uninstall. Even tried checking the MS forums but could not find the correct fix (Win Installer Cleanup Utility has no effect and fix.zip was not attached to the forum messages).

Your page was on pg.2 of Google search for “silverlight no valid sequence” . Your fix to knock off one of the installer keys was simple and IT WORKS!

Thanks for posting it. Much appreciated.
